Dibba sits at the northern terminus of the Musandam Peninsula, where the Arabian Gulf meets Oman's only true fjord system. The port serves as the principal embarkation point for dhow cruises into Khor Ash Sham and Telegraph Canyon, waterways carved by tectonic forces 65 million years ago when the Arabian Plate collided with Eurasia. The resulting geology created limestone cliffs that plunge directly into water exceeding 30 metres in depth, with some faces rising vertically for 2,000 metres. Routes typically trace the western shore past Lima Rock, a 100-metre monolith used as a navigation marker since the 16th century, then turn into Telegraph Canyon, named for the British India telegraph cable laid in 1864.
